Papelo

Privacy Policy

Effective October 3, 2026

Papelo ("Papelo", "we", "us") is a document scanner app for iPhone. This policy explains what data the app handles, why, and the choices you have. We designed Papelo so that your documents stay on your iPhone unless you ask for a feature that needs our server.

Your documents

  • Stored on your iPhone. Scans, imported photos and PDFs, signatures and the text recognized in them are saved in the app's storage on your device. We do not upload your document library.
  • Text recognition and translation run on your iPhone. Papelo uses Apple's on-device frameworks to read text and to translate it. This processing does not send your documents to us.
  • AI explanations and questions. Before the first explanation, Papelo asks for your permission. When you tap Explain or ask a question about a document, the document's recognized text (not the image) and your question are sent over an encrypted connection to our server, which passes them to Google Gemini, an AI service by Google, to generate the answer. We use this text only to produce your answer and do not store it. We do not sell it or use it for advertising. You can turn this off at any time in the app's Settings.
  • Camera and photos. The camera is used only while you scan. When you import photos, you choose which ones the app can access.

Data we collect automatically

  • App usage analytics (Google Firebase Analytics): events such as completing onboarding, finishing a scan or opening the subscription screen, plus device and app information (model, iOS version, language, app version, approximate country) and a random app instance identifier. Analytics never include the content of your documents.
  • Advertising attribution (Apple AdServices): if you installed Papelo from an Apple Search Ads ad, Apple tells us which campaign, ad group and keyword led to the install, without identifying you. We use this to measure which ads work and to show you the most relevant onboarding.
  • Purchases (Apple, RevenueCat): Apple processes all payments; we never see your payment details. RevenueCat receives your purchase and subscription status with a random user identifier so the app can unlock Papelo Pro.
  • Subscription screens (Superwall): Superwall shows the subscription screen and receives events about it (for example, that it was shown or a plan was selected), device information and the attributes above (such as the search topic that brought you to the app).

Papelo does not use the advertising identifier (IDFA), does not track you across other companies' apps or websites, and does not sell your personal data.

Notifications

If you turn on deadline reminders, Papelo schedules local notifications on your iPhone. The reminder content stays on your device.

Service providers

We share data only with providers that help us run the app, and only for that purpose: Google (Firebase Analytics and hosting), RevenueCat (subscriptions), Superwall (subscription screens), Apple (payments, attribution) and Google Gemini (AI explanations and answers). Each processes data under its own privacy terms.

Retention and deletion

  • Delete any document in the app and it is removed from your iPhone. Deleting the app removes all documents stored by it.
  • Text sent for an AI explanation is processed to answer your request and is not kept in a document library on our side.
  • Analytics data is kept for up to 14 months. You can ask us to delete data associated with your app identifier by emailing us.

Children

Papelo is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their personal data.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct or delete your personal data, or to object to its processing. Email us and we will respond within 30 days.

Changes

We will update this page when our practices change and revise the date above.
